Reporting to the Manager of Fundraising & Resource Development, the Specialist, Donor Relations will work closely with the Development Team and will coordinate the SPCA’s Annual Giving program, with a focus on donor stewardship and growing monthly giving, legacy giving, in memory and tribute programs.
The Specialist, Donor Relations will be donor-centered and possess excellent communication and organizational skills. They will demonstrate a positive attitude that supports the mission, vision, and goals of the Brant County SPCA.
Key Responsibilities:
- Enhancing the Brant County SPCA’s brand by being active and visible in the community and working alongside other public and private organizations
- Helping to implement the SPCA’s Development plan and develop strategies and appeals to grow annual fund programs including: monthly giving, legacy giving, in memory/tribute gifts with a focus on donor stewardship and retention.
- Designing and writing donor-centered content for hard-copy newsletters, e-newsletters, e-blasts and appeals with direction and oversight from the Manager, Fundraising & Resource Development.
- Designing marketing and promotional material for the SPCA and helping to keep the website up-to-date.
- Working with the Development and Animal Care teams to develop strategies and content to communicate with and engage new pet parents (adopters).
- Ensuring that donor data is up-to-date in Raiser’s Edge and helping with regular gift entry, adding actions, and setting up and pulling reports and mailing lists.
- Following stewardship processes to ensure all donors are thanked in a timely manner. This includes delegating tasks to Development team members, volunteers and actively making thank you phone calls.
- Preparing speaking points and presentations in PowerPoint and/or Canva to support the Manager, Fundraising & Resource Development and Leadership Team.
- Organizing annual donor recognition events/activities.
- Providing administrative support to the Development Team, as needed.
- Assist with internal communications, ensuring program and shelter staff have a clear understanding of fundraising activities and their important role in these activities.
- Working within assigned budgets and timelines to achieve positive ROI on all projects and programs.
- Ensuring that all donors, volunteers and, members of the public receive a high level of professional, prompt and, friendly service.
- Manage volunteers as it relates to donor relations (donor thank you calls etc).
- Demonstrating a good understanding of animal welfare and effectively communicate the mission, vision and, value of the Brant County SPCA
Working Conditions
- This position may involve physical activity such as lifting up to 20 lbs.
- This position requires sitting for extended periods of time
- The incumbent must be aware that unexpected circumstances occur and have the capability for dealing with unexpected animal or human behaviors
- Work may include indoor and outdoor activities in all weather conditions
- Work primarily occurs in an office environment but also includes some home office and shelter settings.
- Occasionally includes working evenings, weekends, and additional hours to accommodate activities such as attending meetings, social events and representing the organization at public events
Experience & Qualifications
- Experience in a fundraising, marketing, or communications role.
- Experience working and/or volunteering with non-profits is an asset.
- Education in fundraising, marketing, communications, or non-profit management is an asset.
- Familiarity with CRM databases such as Raiser’s Edge NXT is an asset
- Exceptional communication skills and experience copy-writing for direct marketing and digital communications (appeals, e-blasts, e-newsletters, website, and social posts)
- Graphic design experience with Photoshop (or other design programs) is an asset
- Ability to work from home/remotely
- Comfortable handling and being around companion animals and some general knowledge of animal care and responsible pet ownership would be an asset
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as events and campaigns require
- Valid Ontario driver’s license with access to a vehicle is an asset
