Hopewell is seeking a full-time permanent Fund Development Manager to steer and grow fund development and promote our organization.

As the Fund Development Manager, you will champion Hopewell’s fund development initiatives and create “attention grabbing” messages, visuals and social media content that tell the “story of Hopewell”. You will also develop and implement new and innovative fund development strategies that align with our strategic plan and highlight our programs, services, and people.
JOB SUMMARY
The Fund Development Manager will help build and sustain Hopewell’s annual fund development revenues through planning, coordination and execution of special events and donor development. This position will be responsible for the administration and execution of gift planning operations, the coordination of marketing and stewardship efforts on behalf of the organization, and the management of donor relations. The Fund Development Manager will also promote the agency through social media posts and communication campaigns that highlight our supported individuals, and the impact Hopewell programs and services makes in their lives.
The Fund Development Manager has a donor-centred approach to funder research and is goal-oriented with a solid understanding of the Canadian philanthropic environment, legislation, and available charitable vehicles, including familiarity and experience working with grant writing and planned gifts, including bequests, trusts, insurance, and annuities. The ability to collaborate, build trust, develop relationships, protect privacy, and conduct thoughtful, professional communication with donors and their families is a key aspect of this role.
Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Fund Development & Donor Relations
- In line with the strategic plan, focuses on securing and stewarding principal gifts, major gifts, and planned gifts from a diverse community of organizational and individual donors.
- Develops and executes strategies to meet and grow Hopewell’s fund development projections, including overseeing specific fund development campaigns for the organization. Proactively develops and implements strategies that identify, engage, cultivate, solicit, and steward a major gift pipeline of corporate, foundation, and individual donor prospects in all stages of the development cycle.
- Oversees the planning and implementation of effective stewardship and recognition programs to ensure donor retention. Successfully works to upgrade donor contributions.
- Provides strategic direction for grant proposals, case for support and other fund development materials.
- Ensures the ongoing success of fund development events through sponsorship acquisition and fulfillment of benefits.
- Contacts, cultivates, and solicits prospective sponsors, building relationships for mutually beneficial partnerships.
- Researches new or emerging grant opportunities available at the community, regional, provincial and federal levels.
- Acts as the lead on sponsorships and gifts, including developing proposals, crafting benefits and recognition strategies, reporting, and pitching to corporations and individuals.
Brand Ambassadorship
- Acts as a brand ambassador, promoting and building awareness of Hopewell’s programs and services through print and digital products (newsletters, donor impact reports, annual report), presentations and other tools. Leverages opportunities to create stories of impact and able to effectively share Hopewell’s story with parents, program partners, donors, community champions and other stakeholders.
- Represents the organization at community events and public speaking engagements and in the philanthropic community.
- Develops, fosters, and maintains positive networking relationships with key stakeholders, and liaises with local media to continually promote the organization.
- Working within Hopewell’s digital communications policy and strategies, creates and manages timely, compelling, informative and engaging content for both social media, and the organization’s website. Engages with followers to enhance relationships, gather testimonials and find the next great story.
Leadership
- Provides leadership to fund development event staff, volunteers, and volunteer committees, including the Board of Directors and its subcommittees.
- Develops policies, procedures, and guidelines as well as new/enhanced program initiatives for Hopewell’s overall fund development and brand ambassadorship programs.
- Prepares and manages annual business plans and budgets related to fund development and brand ambassadorship.
- Remains apprised of emerging charitable sector trends and legislation and ensures organizational compliance
Requirements
- Minimum post-secondary education from an accredited university or college (University degree preferred) combined with at least three (3) years of direct leadership experience in the fund development sector, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A demonstrated interest in Hopewell’s mission and programs supporting individuals with a developmental disability.
- Personal experience cultivating and closing large, transformational gifts and successfully managing relationships over time with major donors and sponsors.
- Engaging and dynamic leader, with strong people management and communication skills and the ability to positively influence others.
- Excellent relationship-building and interpersonal skills to work effectively with senior leaders, board members, donors and volunteers. Donor-centered and goal-oriented with solid understanding of Canadian philanthropic environment, legislation and available charitable vehicles; including familiarity and experience working with planned gifts, including bequests, trusts, insurance, and annuities.
- Ability to write winning proposals and associated development materials and correspondence.
- Ability to creatively write and design promotional materials and social media posts that attract a variety of audiences.
- Excels at organizational, project management and time management skills. Able to effectively meet deadlines with multiple competing priorities.
- High energy, enthusiasm, and a demonstrated ability to work professionally and effectively under pressure.
- Excellent computer proficiency with Microsoft Office with a solid working knowledge of donor management database software. Familiarity with CanadaHelps software is an asset.
- Flexibility to attend evening/weekend events as required.
- Valid Class G Driver’s License with reliable vehicle to travel for work related purposes.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector screening is required.
Salary: $59,592 – $70,637 + Group Health, Dental & Vision Care Benefits with immediate eligibility
