Fundamentals of Fundraising Bursary
The Fundamentals of Fundraising course is ideal for those new to fundraising, or for those seeking their CFRE designation. This bursary defrays the course fee substantially.
Highlights
- $300 bursary value
- 3 bursaries available in 2023
- Completion of the course earns 16 CFRE credits
Criteria
- Open to members and non-members
- Must be employed in fundraising or interested in working in the profession
- Only one application per organization
- Must demonstrate financial need on the part of your organization and/or a limited professional development budget
- NOT available to anyone who received a bursary in the last calendar year
Recipient Commitments
- Complete the entire course
- Submit a brief report once course is completed
- Consider serving on an AFP Golden Horseshoe volunteer committee for a one year term
Application Process
Apply online by March 24, 2023 at 5:00pm.
The bursary Selection Committee will review all eligible applications and inform all applicants of its decision within two weeks of the application deadline.

New to the Profession Scholarship
An exciting way to accelerate your career if you are transitioning to fundraising from another career or sector!
The New to the Profession Scholarship offers a unique opportunity to fast-track your learning, expertise and network as a fundraising professional.
Highlights
The 2023 scholarship is presented in partnership with Miller Thomson and will include:
- Free one year AFP Golden Horseshoe membership sponsored by Miller Thomson
- Complimentary attendance to five AFP Golden Horseshoe Educational Series events sponsored by the AFP Golden Horseshoe Chapter
- Opportunity for individual “meet and greet” sessions with the AFP Board Member(s)
- Opportunity to connect with Miller Thomson (scholarship sponsor) for a “meet and greet”
Criteria
- Must be employed as a fundraising professional
- Must have less than five years of experience as a fundraising professional
- NOT available to anyone who received a bursary or scholarship from AFP Golden Horseshoe in 2022

AFP Congress Bursaries
Let us help you get inspired! This bursary will help defray the costs of attending AFP’s annual three day fundraising conference in Toronto.
Highlights
- 4 bursaries of $700 each are available
Learn best practices from the world’s most respected fundraisers, network with colleagues from across Canada and develop key professional skills at AFP Congress
Criteria
- Must be employed as a fundraising professional, or as an Executive Director or Consultant that spends at 20% of their time on fundraising
- Only one application per organization
- Must demonstrate financial need on the part of your organization and/or a limited professional development budget
- NOT available to anyone who received a bursary last calendar year
Recipient Commitments
- Attend the entire conference
- Complete a brief evaluation report at the end of the conference (funds provided once report is received)
- Agree to serve on an AFP Golden Horseshoe committee/board for one year should an opportunity be available

Chamberlain Scholarship
Attend ICON, the most-recognized fundraising conference in the world.
The 2023 AFP ICON will be held in New Orleans April 16-18, 2023.
Highlights
- $2,000 towards expenses such as travel, accommodation, meals (funds are provided following attendance at the conference)
- Plus, we’ll cover the conference fee less $10 USD
- 1 scholarship available annually
Criteria
- Only open to AFP Golden Horseshoe members
- Must have at least 5 years full time experience as a professional fundraiser
- Must be employed as: a fundraising professional; an Executive Director or Consultant that spends at 20% of their time on fundraising; or as consultant that spends 50% of their fundraising for other organizations
- Only one application per organization
- Must demonstrate financial need on the part of your organization and/or a limited professional development budget
- NOT available to anyone who has previously attended ICON
Recipient Commitments
- Attend the entire conference
- Complete a brief evaluation report at the end of the conference (funds provided once report is received)
- Consider volunteering on an AFP Golden Horseshoe committee

The Chamberlain Scholarship honours Ralph Chamberlain, CFRE, a long time fundraiser and supporter of AFP.

IDEA Membership Bursary
Does your organization support equity-seeking communities? You may be eligible for a free AFP membership.
We’re offering four (4) free memberships valued at $360 ($285 + $75 chapter dues) each for professionals serving non-profit organizations within our region whose mission and focus is to support equity-seeking communities.
We gratefully acknowledge the support of the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy-Canada and Every Member Campaign donors who made this opportunity possible.
Criteria
To be considered for this bursary you must:
- Work at an organization that support equity-seeking communities
- Fit the criteria for either a Professional or Association Membership (see details below)
- Not have received a bursary from AFP Golden Horseshoe in the last calendar year
- Confirm this is the only application from your organization
- Submit the application by the deadline
Membership Types Available
You must belong to one of the following membership types in order to qualify for this bursary.
Professional: For individuals working as professional fundraisers and/or who are responsible for a part of the fundraising process in their organization.
Associate: For individuals or volunteers who are engaged in fields related to fundraising, have mutual interests with fundraising professionals, or who support professional fundraising efforts.
In both cases, members must uphold the Donor Bill of Rights and the AFP Code of Ethical Principles and Standards.
