Trends to Watch in 2016

It’s a new year so that means it’s time to look ahead to see what trends will shape charities in 2016.

Getting a head start on 2016 is the team behind Nonprofit Content Marketing 2016: Benchmarks, Budgets, and Trends. Produced by Content Marketing Institute in association with Blackbaud and sponsored by FusionSpark Media, the sixth annual content marketing survey includes insights from more than 400 nonprofit marketers in North America.

Some of the key takeaways from the report include:

  • Although social media posts continue to be a tactic nonprofit marketers use most frequently, in-person events are ranked as the most effective communications tactic.
  • Of all the social media platforms that nonprofit marketers use to share content, Instagram use increased the most last year but Facebook is still the platform most often used and the one that remains the most effective.
  • The most important metric that nonprofits use to evaluate their marketing and communications strategies is an increase in fundraising followed closely behind an increased in event attendance.
  • Looking ahead in 2016, creating more engaging content was the number one priority for nonprofit communicators.

Together, the two editions focus on emerging trends in specific sectors. The report addresses, among other things, how advances in technology and shifts in demographics have significantly changed how charities connect with donors.
