How do your donors experience you?

I went with my family this weekend to see the Shriners Circus in Oakville.  While, you may or may not agree with the circus concept, there are many things charities can learn from the circus about promotion and how to treat their customers.

First of all it is pretty easy to spot the circus tent once you are in the area.  The tent with its bright red and yellow stripes stands out so everyone can see it.  The Big Top calls out FUN.  What are you doing to bring people to your charity?  How can you BIG IT UP and put yourself out there so everyone can easily find you.

Secondly the performers do not play it safe.  Are they happy to juggle a few foam balls, do a few acrobatic flips on the ground and call it a day?  No, they are constantly pushing boundaries and figuring out how to do things, faster, higher or make it more exciting.  What are you doing to step out of your comfort zone and reach for the top?

Thirdly, the circus promoters do not just put up a big tent and say okay I am done.  They commit to the whole circus experience.  They put themselves in the seat of the audience member and really see things through their eyes.   What is it like sitting in the audience of your charity as a donor /member /volunteer or guest?  My family sat on a steel bench for 2.5 hours because we did not want to miss anything.  Would they sit on a bench for you?  Do you meet their expectations and give them value for their hard-earned money?  How do you leave them feeling satisfied and wanting to come back for more?
