St. Joseph’s Health Centre Foundation, Guelph is seeking a Senior Development Officer (SDO), to join our team.
Reporting to the VP, Development, the Senior Development Officer (SDO) will be responsible for working with the staff team to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift and planned giving donors and prospects in support of the goals and objectives of St. Joseph’s Health Centre Foundation, Guelph.
The SDO will be instrumental in successfully executing the strategies for growth in the Major and Planned Giving programs. They will be active in proposal development and writing, ensuring meaningful cultivation with donors and focusing on identification and solicitation of new prospective donors.
Key responsibilities include:
o Develop and implement strategies that identify, engage, cultivate, solicit and steward a pipeline of prospects and donors throughout all stages of the development cycle.
o Develop and maintain personal contact with a portfolio of major gift and planned giving prospects and donors.
o Meet individually with prospective donors and provide opportunities for giving, including presenting proposals and sharing information on estate planning options.
o Work closely with VP Development to identify needs and opportunities to develop compelling and strategic cases for support.
o Prepare customized written materials, proposals, stewardship reports and other donor correspondence.
o Ensure senior leadership and senior volunteers are properly briefed and prepared in advance of any meetings.
o Actively participate in the on-going management and stewardship of all donors by implementing high quality best practices.
o Support the VP, Development in implementing Communications and Annual Giving strategies.
o Monitor giving trends and devise on-going strategies to successfully build strong donor relations.
o Work collaboratively with the entire Foundation team to maximize all gift opportunities and ensure donors are appropriately stewarded.
o Ensure accurate tracking of all donor activity and information within Raiser’s Edge.
o Perform cross-functional duties as assigned.
o A university degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in a relevant field such as fundraising, marketing or special events planning.
o Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation considered an asset.
o Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the fundraising/advancement field, preferably in a health care environment, or equivalent donor-focused environment.
o A proven track record of soliciting and closing major gifts.
o Knowledge of the principles and techniques relevant to major gift and planned giving fundraising.
o Understanding of current and emerging best practices in stewardship and donor engagement, with a demonstrated ability to develop and implement stewardship strategies that strengthen long-term relationships with donors.
o Extremely effective interpersonal skills with a professional presence and manner, capable of exercising independent judgment, initiative and flexibility.
o Exceptional writing, communication and research skills required to convey concise, clear and compelling stories.
o Superb organization, planning and time management skills along with a strong commitment to detail and accuracy.
o A flexible team player able to collaborate with and inspire colleagues and senior volunteers.
o Computer proficiency in using the MS Office suite.
o Experience with donor database Raiser’s Edge considered an asset.
o Available to work weekend and evening hours as required.
o Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle is required.
