Individual & Foundation Giving Manager


The Mississauga Food Bank’s (TMFB) vision is a Mississauga where no one goes hungry. We relieve hunger in Mississauga by providing and promoting access to healthy food for people in need.


Job Purpose

  • Grow revenue from middle donors ($1,000 - $4,999 cumulative) and help to build major donor pipeline ($5,000+)
  • Work with Director of Marketing & Communications to integrate all individual giving, including solicitation and stewardship of annual, monthly, and middle donors
  • Grow revenue from Foundation donors



Grow Revenue from Middle Donors (45%)

  • Reimagine and implement the strategy for middle donors (approximately 300 donors contributing $400K)
  • Build and execute a communication, solicitation, and stewardship plan for middle donors, including phone calls, email, and direct mail, taking into account interests, motivations, and giving patterns
  • Include one-to-many activities as well as one-to-some activities depending on level of engagement and support
  • Ensure an active pipeline of middle donors by working closely with other Development team members to identify prospects from daily/weekly gift reports and use criteria to mine the database to uncover prospects
  • Identify major donor prospects and work with Director of Development to transition these relationships


Integrate Individual Giving (25%)

*Individual giving (including annual, monthly, middle, and major) currently straddles two departments (development and marketing). TMFB’s plans to transition all individual giving to the Development team by 2021.

  • Partner with the Director of Marketing & Communications to develop a fulsome individual giving strategy and communications plan (including digital, phone, and direct response)
  • Optimize and integrate partnerships with vendors implementing phone stewardship/thank you calls and phone solicitations
  • Connect middle donor strategy and practices to the annual giving program to ensure seamless communication and activities
  • Co-develop and co-execute a plan to grow monthly donor portfolio in number of participants and total funds raised
  • Develop and follow up on opportunities for annual donors to self identify as monthly/ middle/major donor prospects


Grow Revenue from Foundations (20%)

  • Actively work to establish long-term partnerships and strengthen existing relationships with foundations (approx 15 Foundations) to exceed revenue targets ($235K)
  • Research new prospects using GrantConnect database and other online resources
  • Develop highly competitive proposals for foundation prospects and leverage foundation goals and preferences in conjunction with TMFB goals
  • Ensure reporting requirements are met by maintaining records of activities
  • Provide best-in-class stewardship to Foundation donors


Administration/Other (10%)

  • Maintain records in the donor database (Raiser’s Edge) related to your portfolio. Enter contact reports and ensure next steps are scheduled. Enter capacity ratings based on research, prioritize prospects, and assign portfolios as appropriate. Run queries/reports as needed
  • Create reports that reflect portfolio activity and progress towards achieving goals
  • Other duties as required and assigned


Education and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree or college diploma, or equivalent education in a related field
  • 3+ years of fundraising experience with a focus on working with individual donors
  • Proven success in grant and proposal writing, moves management and asks, assessing capacity through prospect research, and managing donor relations

  • Communication. Articulate and persuasive oral and written communication skills, including public speaking and presentation abilities. Tact, diplomacy and good judgment when forming relationships
  • Planning/Organization/Project Management. Determine strategies to move the organization forward, set goals and focus on priorities, create/implement action plans/budgets, document, evaluate, and learn
  • Proactivity/Enthusiasm/Persistence. Act without being told what to do. Passionate and excited about work. Can-do attitude. Tenacious and goes the distance to complete work. Ability to work autonomously while being aware of the importance of accountability
  • Technical. Computer proficiency with strong skills in MS Office, Google Apps for business. Demonstrated experience with customer management systems (CMS) or other moves-management systems, Raiser’s Edge preferred.  TMFB is a cloud-based, paperless environment
  • Collaboration. Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills. A collaborative work style; open to supporting other departments; thrive in a fast-paced evolving work culture

Relationships: This position reports to the Director of Development

Position Type: 13-month contract role (39 hours/week), starting mid-July

Compensation: $65,000 - $70,000/year
