St. Joseph's Healthcare Foundation
St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation works with the community to secure donations that help St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton to purchase life-saving equipment, fund healthcare research and facility renewal, and to provide exceptional programs, services and care to patients and families.
The Foundation’s Communications Officer is a brand ambassador among internal and external audiences and tells the St. Joe’s story across all mediums. The Communications Officer develops marketing and communications tools to engage our donors and the community, supports donor recognition, enhances stewardship and fundraising programs and events, crafts inspiring donor and grateful patient stories and articles, oversees and develops social media content, and drafts content for speaking remarks and media material and more.
Responsibilities of the Communications Officer, 14-month contract position:
•Participates in the development and execution of strategic communications plans to support Foundation programs and events.
•Interviews stakeholders and donors to craft inspiring stories and articles for communication vehicles including, but not limited to: internal and external newsletters, annual reports, magazines, social media content, website content and newspaper ads and inserts.
•Creates and/or oversees creative design work, including communications tools such as posters, invitations, screen savers and videos.
•Develops suggested remarks/speaking notes for donors, Foundation spokespeople and Hospital administrators to deliver at internal and external events and speaking engagements.
•Crafts and updates content for the Foundation’s website, Facebook page, Linked In Corporate Profile, Twitter feed, Instagram account, and other digital media vehicles.
•Oversees elements of Foundation branding, including signage within the community and the Foundation brand in written/print format.
•Maintains a seamless relationship with the Public Affairs department of St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton to ensure alignment of key messages and corporate priorities with Foundation communications, especially through shared social media channels.
•Other duties, as assigned. Due to the nature of the work, occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
The successful candidate will have the following:
•A minimum of two years’ work experience in communications, marketing or public relations.
•Bachelor’s Degree and/or Post-Graduate Certificate in Public Relations, Communications or Journalism.
•Superior writing, proofreading and editing skills with a flair for storytelling.
•Exceptional project management and prioritization skills.
•Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite and experience with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.
•Knowledge of Facebook and Facebook Insights, Twitter and Twitter Analytics, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and Hootsuite.
•Superior interpersonal skills and a commitment to working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders internally and externally.
•Familiarity with online photo/video editing software including Biteable, Piktochart and PicMonkey is an asset.
•Experience with Wordpress is an asset.
•An understanding of the fundraising and/or healthcare industry is an asset.
Compensation package is commensurate with skills and experience.
