Job Description

The Huntington Society of Canada (Society) was established in 1973 to provide support for families dealing with Huntington disease (HD), to increase national and international awareness of HD, to advocate for public policy change and to promote and fund biomedical and clinical research to delay or stop the progression of this genetic disease.  The Society also works directly with health and social service professionals to enable them to better serve people living with HD, a particularly debilitating disease that significantly impacts both patients and their families. The Society is comprised of a national network of employees, volunteer chapters and area representatives, governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. The Society’s national office is located in Waterloo, ON with regional Huntington Disease Resource Centres located across Canada to deliver support to families and individuals. The network also includes 30 volunteer groups, or Chapters, primarily engaged in fundraising.

The Huntington Society of Canada is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate CEO to lead the organization through its next stage of success. The CEO is responsible for the overall management of the Society to achieve its mission to improve the quality of life for those affected by HD and to pursue its vision of a world free from HD.  The Society addresses its mission through the oversight and facilitation of excellent support services, providing access to the best and most up-to-date educational resources, increasing national and global awareness, advocacy and investing in promising research.  The CEO will report directly to the Board of Directors.

As a strategic thinker, dedicated professional and self-starter, you are a skilled leader who is passionate about building relationships, inspiring teams, and serving as an effective advocate for patients and their families.  You have strong business and financial acumen and the ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders including staff and family members, government, community leaders, donors, and scientists.  You have previous experience working closely with, or reporting to a Board of Directors, and you know how to open doors to create business and partnership opportunities, leveraging value and developing strategic alliances. You have had exposure to fundraising and understand the competitive philanthropic landscape in which Canadian charities operate.  You are a skilled communicator and facilitator with excellent presentation skills, and you are comfortable acting as the organization’s chief ambassador.  You hold a post secondary degree; a Masters degree is an asset.
