Southlake Regional Health Centre Foundation is seeking an experienced major gift fundraiser in the new position of Associate Director, Philanthropy. The Associate Director will play a key role in helping to bring world-class healthcare close to home for residents of York Region and South Simcoe by driving new revenue.
With dynamic new leadership at both the Foundation and the Hospital, this is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and skilled relationship builder eager to be part of a team who is raising the bar in healthcare philanthropy.
Reporting to the Vice President, Major Gifts and Campaign, the Associate Director will be responsible for building and managing a personal portfolio of major gift donors and prospects and providing support to staff and volunteer leaders, including the Philanthropy Cabinet and Physicians Council. As a key member of this high performing Major Gifts Team, the Associate Director will be a mentor and coach to two Development Officers.

Through the love lives here campaign; we opened the doors of the Margaret Bahen Hospice for York Region in November 2017. More than over 200 patients and their families have already been able to access this much needed home away from home.
More recently, we celebrated the completion of the Images for Life campaign with the arrival and installation of the new 3 Tesla MRI machine. Now, more patients have access to advanced tools that will help diagnose complex conditions faster and with more precision than ever before at Southlake.
Southlake is experiencing unprecedented increases in demand for our services as one of the fastest growing regions in Ontario. Although brick and mortar is a significant part of the solution to our capacity issues, we are also looking to the future beyond the walls of the hospital. Southlake Foundation enjoys a strong relationship with the communities served by Southlake Regional Health Centre. The Philanthropy Cabinet, comprised of business and community leaders facilitates relationships with individuals, institutions, and organizations in an effort to enhance philanthropic support; and acts as ambassadors and champions for Southlake.
To encourage investment in Southlake’s future, the engagement and input of physicians is critical to support Foundation volunteers and staff in understanding Southlake’s needs, challenges, opportunities and impact on healthcare in our community. The Physicians’ Council is a group of volunteers from the medical staff responsible for advising and working with Southlake Foundation as content experts, ambassadors, and advocates helping inform and inspire donor support.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The Associate Director, Philanthropy will be an experienced and tenacious ‘boots on the ground’ fundraiser who is passionate about healthcare. With a laser-like focus on major gift fundraising, the new incumbent will have success supporting senior staff and volunteers’ fundraising and personally closing major gifts at the five and six figure level from individuals and corporations.
An innovative self-starter with a solid track record of major gift pipeline development, the successful candidate will draw on current donor audiences and referrals as well as explore new donor audiences to build a robust portfolio. Goal driven, the Associate Director will be energized by and strive towards activity milestones as well as revenue goals.
Having past experience engaging senior volunteers and community leaders in major gift prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, the ideal candidate will effectively work with and through others. The new incumbent will be comfortable within large and complex organizations, and will welcome opportunities to connect our highly-skilled and knowledgeable clinical teams with our donors and prospective donors.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Donor Development and Major Gift Solicitation
•Manage a portfolio of 80+ prospects and donors to support the priority needs of the Hospital while delivering an exceptional donor experience to enable deep, meaningful, long-term relationships with Southlake
•Grow robust pipeline with movement, active management and conversion to gifts at $25K+
•Conduct cultivation and discovery visits, solicitation calls and stewardship activities to meet both activity and financial goals
•Participate in prospect identification (from internal and external sources), review, research, clearance, coordinate and develop cultivation and solicitation plans
•Plan, develop, implement and manage fundraising strategies for personal prospect pool
•Support the development and delivery of hospital tours and cultivation events in support of donor relationship development
•Develop and present compelling proposals to prospects and donors, monitoring progress and navigating through timely closure
•Collaborate with Major Gift Team members and marketing and communications staff in the development of materials, reports and other related collateral targeting major gift donors
•Work with the Vice President, Major Gifts & Campaign to support the Philanthropy Cabinet in all aspects of the donor development cycle to ensure leadership volunteer solicitor needs are met
•Work with the Vice President and Director in collaboration with clinical staff to convert grateful patient referrals to gifts
•Develop effective relationships with Hospital physicians, clinical and administrative staff as a representative of the Foundation and to support and advance donor development
•Act as an ambassador throughout the community and represent the Foundation at networking events
•Mentor and support in the leadership of two Development Officers
•Complete, maintain and monitor relevant donor documentation, files, and records in Raiser’s Edge
•Prepare briefing materials and support senior staff and volunteers in donor development as required
•Work collaboratively with other Foundation staff in gift administration and fulfillment
•Support regular forecasting and development of the annual budget
•Maintain an awareness of best practices in major gift fundraising through ongoing professional development and networking
QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES
•Passion for healthcare philanthropy and major gift fundraising as part of a dedicated, donor centered team
•Demonstrated experience in all aspects of the donor development cycle including a proven track record of negotiating and closing gifts at $25K+
•Experience in working with senior volunteers to cultivate relationships, solicit and secure gifts
•Ability to work with senior leaders, physicians, and clinical directors collaboratively in support of donor development
•Excellent interpersonal skills and very strong person to person relationship building skills
•Strong communication skills (verbal and written) marked by the ability to inspire and influence at all levels with confidence. Experience in creating and presenting compelling proposals to donors
•Exemplary attention to detail, planning, organizational and time management skills with the ability to attain financial and program goals within prescribed timelines
•Highly adaptable and able to prioritize multiple and changing demands and work comfortably in a fast paced environment
•Ability to work independently to set priorities using an above average level of initiative
•Professional maturity and proven ability to exercise diplomacy, maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgement
•Proficient in the use of all corporate productivity tools including Microsoft Office and its applications, the Internet and Raiser’s Edge
•Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
•Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in a related field. A combination of comparable skills and experience may be considered. CFRE is an asset
