in its new virtual, weekly format



The 2021 Course will run :

6:30 pm - 9:30 pm

(7 Modules, once per week, Tuesday evenings)




New to fundraising and looking for an overview of relevant topics and techniques?

A fundraising professional working towards your CFRE or recertification? 





(Please note: A minimum of 12 persons must be registered for the course to move forward)


The  AFP Fundamentals of Fundraising Course  was developed with a foundation from the Essentials of Fundraising Program and the First Course and is composed of seven modules that have been designed by experienced fundraising professionals to meet the real-world needs and challenges non-profit organizations face every day. This program includes case studies and projects for groups and individuals, making the learning experience both substantive and enjoyable. The  AFP Fundamentals of Fundraising Course  offers a complete overview of the development function, featuring the most current information and techniques.

Within the course interface, you will have access to a glossary of fundraising terms and numerous resource documents that will be referenced throughout the course. Breakout discussions will enable practice, dialogue and discussion with classmates.

This virtual program will provide an overview of fundraising skills and techniques. Full participation in the AFP Fundamentals of Fundraising Course is applicable for 16.0 points of CFRE Credit in Category 1.B – Education of the CFRE International application for initial certification and/or recertification.

Target Audience
Entry level with 0 to 4 years of fundraising experience or those working on their CFRE and require credits/recertification.

CFRE Accreditation
Participation in the full program qualifies for 16 points toward CFRE education requirements.

Participants must be prepared to keep video option on for the full session each week

Focusing on developing organizational structures and operations so that they are positioned to experience success for the long-term, Ed's chief motivation is helping organizations achieve the goals of their mission within their communities. Ed has an unmatched perspective on the development and Planned Giving approaches available to organizations. Ed is the co-author of Worthy and Prepared along with Peter Barrow, host of the PGgrowth Planned Giving podcast, Professor with the Humber College Fundraising Management Program and a regular presenter of the AFP Fundamentals of Fundraising Course. Suzanne Bone, FAHP, CFRE -- President & CEO, The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital. Suzanne is a seasoned non-profit executive with particular expertise in fund-raising and governance. She is a certified fund raising executive and the 19th Canadian to hold the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy Fellows designation. Suzanne came to Guelph in 1991 as a student, doing a placement at Guelph General Hospital as part of her Masters in Health Administration…and she never left. She joined the Foundation when her placement ended, and since that time, has directed fundraising activities that have raised more than $60 million to help Guelph General Hospital save lives and improve health. Suzanne sits as a member of the Hospital’s Senior Leadership team, and provides a leadership role in hospital communications. Suzanne is an active volunteer in her community and in her profession. She has been a Board Member for Victory Kids Club, Guelph Chamber of Commerce, and currently, Innovation Guelph. She is Track Dean of the Annual Giving track for the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy’s annual Fundraising Institute.
