Fundamentals of Fundraising
The AFP Fundamentals of Fundraising Course was developed with a foundation from the Essentials of Fundraising Program and the First Course and is composed of seven modules that have been designed by experienced fundraising professionals to meet the real-world needs and challenges nonprofit organizations face every day. This 16 hour program includes case studies and projects for groups and individuals, making the learning experience both substantive and enjoyable. The AFP Fundamentals of Fundraising Course offers a complete overview of the development function, featuring the most current information and techniques.
The AFP Fundamentals of Fundraising Course, is also available as an eLearning course. The AFP Fundamentals of Fundraising eLearning Course is composed of seven modules that have been designed by experienced fundraising professionals to meet the real-world needs and challenges nonprofit organizations face every day. This course includes case studies and video segments, making the learning experience both substantive and enjoyable. Within the course interface, you will have access to a glossary of fundraising terms and numerous resource documents that will be referenced throughout the course. You will even view a sample video of making “the ask” from experts in the field!
Both in-person and on-line programs will provide an overview of skills, techniques and program components for individuals with 0 to 4 years of fundraising experience. Full participation in the AFP Fundamentals of Fundraising Courseis applicable for 16.0 points of CFRE Credit in Category 1.B – Education of the CFRE International application for initial certification and/or recertification.

AFP GH Members - $450, including continental breakfast and lunch both days.
Non-members - $550, including continental breakfast and lunch both days

Ed Sluga, CFRE
Ed Sluga, PGgrowth's President, is one of Canada's most experienced Planned Giving professionals and has had extensive experience operating all types of fundraising programs for local, regional and national not-for-profit organizations. For over 20 years, he has helped hundreds of organizations from across the country develop and benefit from long-term, sustainable and proactive fundraising programs. Ed has held the positions of Vice-President, Major and Planned Gifts for the Foundation of Guelph General Hospital, Executive Director of The Children's Foundation of Guelph and Wellington, National Director of Planned Giving and Philanthropy Services for the CNIB and Head of Advancement for St. Mildred's-Lightbourn School as well as consulting in all areas of fund development and donor engagement. Ed has always focused on developing organizational structures and operations so that they are positioned to experience success for the long-term with the chief motivation in helping organizations achieve the goals of their mission within their communities.
Ed is the co-author of Worthy and Prepared along with Peter Barrow, was a contributor to the Vigilant Fundraiser and has a podcast - The PGgrowth Planned Giving Podcast - on all things related to Planned Giving that can be found on iTunes, Google Play and on the PGgrowth website at www.pggrowth.com
Theresa Butler-Porter, CFRE
Theresa Butler-Porter wants to live in a world where every charity and not-for-profit benefits from a well-supported, vibrant and sustainable Planned Giving program. Evangelical about the power of Planned/Legacy Giving, Theresa has experienced first-hand the impact a robust program can have on an organization. A philanthropy professional with 20 years of experience, she has worked for top tier organizations: United Way of Peterborough, Trent University and the Peterborough Regional Health Centre Foundation, and has been at the Lakefield College School Foundation for the past 12 years.
Always willing to share her expertise and creativity, Theresa is well-known as a popular and enthusiastic presenter and has spoken at events across Canada. When she's not engaging in ways to promote Planned/Legacy Giving, you'll find Theresa creating short stories, mentoring young fundraisers and volunteering in the community.
